Consistency is the key to making SNAP for Schools a successful program. Children should practice their SNAP skills at school, at home and in their community. It can be challenging for children to know what the various expectations are regarding their behaviour as they move between these different social spheres. When the adults in their lives are consistent, this gives children clearer boundaries regarding expectations for their behaviour. The more we support children with the SNAP program and behaviour management, the likelier they are to be successful.
You Can:
• Encourage children to talk about SNAP and what they have learned.
• During challenging moments, gently remind the child to use their SNAP skills.
• Recognize and praise children for using SNAP.
• Learn the SNAP skills and practice it yourself! Children learn from the adults around them and when we model positive behaviour, we are influencing our children’s behaviour.
