![]() A positive school climate exists when all students feel comfortable, wanted, valued, accepted, and secure in an environment where they can interact with caring people they trust. A positive school climate affects everyone associated with the school – students, staff, parents, and the community. It is the belief system or culture that underlies the day-to-day operation of a school. This informative one-day conference will be held on Tuesday, March 20th at the Chateau Louis in Edmonton, AB. Debbie Pushor, University of Saskatchewan In this session, Debbie will share knowledge, insights and experiences gained from her research on parent engagement and parent knowledge and gained from her experiences working in varied school settings. She will speak about what parent engagement is, about the beliefs and assumptions which underlie it, and about the trust and relationships and the welcoming and hospitality that it takes to make it happen. Debbie will share concrete examples and stories of successful practices which enhance school climate and which link parents and educators in meaningful ways in the endeavour of schooling. At the end of her presentation, participants will be invited to interact with Debbie and with one another in a question and answer session.
