The Canadian Safe School Network is pleased to announce that it has been awarded federal funding from the Ministry of Public Safety to deliver the SNAP® Program to schools across the GTA, beginning in January 2010.
SNAP® stands for STOP-NOW-AND-PLAN and is an evidence-based model developed more than 30 years ago by the Child Development Institute (CDI) in Toronto, Canada (formerly called Earlscourt Child and Family Centre), targeted to at-risk students and their parents.
The SNAP® for Schools project will use the patented techniques of the SNAP® clinical model to decrease the risk of youth between the ages of 6 and 11 in engaging in future delinquent behaviour by teaching effective behavioural skills within the classroom setting.
CSSN has hired five new staff members who will be delivering the SNAP® program in both English and French in the following school boards over the next 3.5 years:
Daisie Auty – Toronto District School Board
Haley Higdon – Toronto Catholic District School Board
Katie White – Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board
Dianne Ritch – Durham District School Board
Julie Laplante – Conseil scolaire de district Centre-Sud
CSSN looks forward to working with the school boards and to delivering this very successful program to their students.
CSSN would also like to thank the Ministry of Public Safety and the Honourable Peter Van Loan, as well as the National Crime Prevention Strategy, for their support of this program.
