LGBTQ Student Conference - February 16th, 2012

: January 27, 2012       : Dave Fraser

With the generous support of TD Bank, CSSN is excited to present a companion student stream to The 15th Annual Safe Schools Conference on February 16th.

The student stream focuses on issues facing our LGBTQ youth in schools today.

Homophobia, transphobia, sexuality-based bullying, mental health issues, highly-publicized teen suicides and controversial GSAs are just some of the day-to-day challenges for students and educators alike as our schools strive to integrate queer culture.

There is always room for everyone - and for new ideas, initiatives and approaches. Join us and spend the day with fellow students and informative presenters and see how you can help make a difference.

Keynote Presentation
Margaret Trudeau, Celebrated Canadian & Mental Health Advocate

Margaret Trudeau became the youngest Prime Minister’s wife in Canadian history, when she married Pierre Elliot Trudeau at the age of 22. She has led a rich and interesting life, raising five children and traveling the country and the world extensively.

Trudeau has authored three books, including her latest, Changing My Mind, which has topped the best selling charts. Margaret discusses with candour and insight the bi-polar condition she has struggled with all her life and shares her journey of recovery, acceptance and hope with the wish that others suffering will reach out and get the help they need.
