Western Division

Western Canada’s Safe School Network will be actively engaged in promoting healthy and safe communities through education and skill development for professionals, parents, children, and youth.


Our Objectives
- To promote healthy and safe schools through capacity building professional development

- To support evidence-based universal, targeted, and intensive violence prevention programs

- To provide opportunities to network and disseminate knowledge about promising violence prevention practices as well as to identify gaps in current programming for schools and youth at risk of becoming violent or in trouble with the law

- To identify and facilitate the adaptation of violence prevention programs to Western Canadian worldviews in partnership with the Aboriginal Education Research Centre.

- To support agencies, professionals and communities to develop collaborative, multidisciplinary teams focusing on prevention, early interventions, and aftermath strategies for violent events and conflict.

 

The objectives of the Western Division of the Canadian Safe Schools Network will be met through:

a) A comprehensive Safe Schools Conference in a variety of locations throughout the Western Provinces

b) Risk & Threat Assessment Training Workshops

c) Safe School Certification Institutes

d) Provincial and Topic Specific Think Tank Sessions with Senior Educational Personnel to determine Provincial Needs

e) Other workshops and professional development days as requested by, and in partnership with the Canadian Prevention Science Cluster for Children & Youth--Saskatchewan Centre; the Aboriginal Education Research Centre at the University of Saskatchewan; and the Safe Schools Manitoba office.
